Will Thaddeus Rise Again?
I'm a game developer, and the current project I'm working on is called "The Rise of Thaddeus." As you might imagine, it follows a character named Thaddeus. This song is about Thaddeus, and it's called "Unlimited." And that's because... At one point in Thaddeus' life, he looks back on his past of painful memories; and he realizes: It's infinitely more important to look forward into a future worth fighting for. It's in this moment of revelation that Thaddeus becomes "Unlimited."
There is no question about it. Pain is what moves us forward. Pain is our friend and our foe. It makes us stronger, while causing us to be miserable. It's a temporary loss for a long term gain. In the end, it's up to us how long the pain effects us. The character seen above is named Thaddeus. Moments ago, his family was killed by a murderous God. The God spared only him, but banished him to a place called "The Null." There is no worse outcome. The funny thing about the Null, is that it is presents no danger. Thaddeus is surrounded by a vast expanse of complete and utter nothingness. No matter how far he runs in any direction, he will always be surrounded by timeless emptiness. While he is in this place: He will not age, be stricken by disease, or come across danger of any kind. The only thing to occupy him are his thoughts. As fate would have it, his final thoughts before being banished here were not pleasant ones. Hope is the furthest thing from him. Yet, as bleak as his situation is, it is impossible to die from sorrow. He still has the ability to choose. He can choose to breathe, stand up, and walk. Alternatively, he can choose to give up, and wallow in the Null for eternity; staring at his reflection in a pool of his tears, until he becomes one with the nothingness surrounding him. If he is extremely lucky, and always grateful, he will find a way. There is always a way. --- Back to our lives: This ability to choose alone is one of the greatest gifts. It is a gift, just to be human. It's during the times when we feel beyond hope, that we should be grateful for our ability to feel that way. As long as we have the choice to live, we have the best gift of all. It's a shame we've only got eighty-some years to enjoy it.
